Nursery Furniture - Choosing What's Best For Your
Baby's Nursery
By David

When choosing
nursery furniture there are a few
set items that you
will need to purchase and others items that are nice to haves. Nursery
furniture will only be used for a few years unless you are planning a
brother or sister for baby then a good quality furniture set is a wise
investment.
Pieces can be
bought individually or in sets with
a
very large price spread in between. High end stylish sets are expensive
but do last a long term. However mid to low range pieces can be very
good buys.
The basics that
you will need are
- Cot
- Mattress
- Changing
table
- Wardrobe
- Chest
of drawers
- Moses
basket
The cot and the mattress
go together so ensure that your cot comes
with a mattress or that you know the proper size of mattress you need
for the cot.
A baby changing
table is essential as it provides
a flat surface for baby and plenty of storage space for the nappies,
powder and wipes. Buy a changing table that come with a changing mat
built in to save you the additional cost of purchasing one for it.
The wardrobe and
chest of drawers could always be
combined into a tallboy if space is limited within the nursery.
A
Moses basket is a great way to move baby around the house when they are
sleeping. Ensure that the Moses basket comes with a cover as this will
protect baby should you use the Moses basket outside.
The style
of modern furniture is very reflective of modern house furniture trends
and you will be able to find a colour scheme that will match your house
style as well as the normal pastels and bright colours that are
available.
It is always
best to plan the nursery way ahead of
the
delivery date so that the nursery is ready for when baby and mum return
home. A freshly painted and carpeted nursery with the basic furniture
requirements will ensure a safe and secure area for those initial years
of baby's life.
There are
certain things to watch out for when
buying nursery furniture to ensure that it is baby friendly. These are
- No
sharp corners for baby to
collide with
- No
heavy lids or moving parts for
baby to get caught in
- No
holes or gaps where baby can
trap their fingers
This should now have
given you and idea of what to be thinking
about now when it comes to planning baby's nursery. There are other
thing to consider like décor, mobiles, soft toys and such
but that
discussion if for another time. Happy parenting.
